Words

I love stringing words together, and have been doing it professionally for more than 18 years. It doesn’t always come easy, but it is always gratifying. Here are some of my columns, reporting, features, press releases and poetry.

Columns

Since 2004, I have written a 500-600 word column which appears in "Pulse," the weekly entertainment tabloid in the Las Cruces (NM) Sun-News. Topics are of my choosing, and have ranged from the death of Norman Mailer to the role of the grill in a man's life. I have written about The Game's beef with 50 Cent, have interviewed Marlon Brando's best friend, have interviewed Krayzie Bone and written profile pieces on Buddy Guy, Hunter S. Thompson, Don Imus, Stanley "Tookie" Williams, Ana Castillo and more.

New columns are published every Thursday.

Reporting

From 2015 to 2017, I worked as an education reporter for the Las Cruces (NM) Sun-News. My beat included the Las Cruces Public Schools system, Gadsden Independent School District, Doña Ana Community College and New Mexico State University.

My goal was to bring fresh reporting and more in-depth stories to this desk.

Features

While at the Las Cruces Sun-News, I sometimes ventured off the education beat.

That’s when things got weird.

Press Releases

Since 2017, the bulk of my day-to-day writing has been “for immediate release.” Here is a collection of press releases I have written for Las Cruces Public Schools, the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Vescovo Toyota and independent artists.

Poetry

After a day of writing at work, I sometimes come home and write for fun. This is a collection of my poetry.

First Lines

I have never felt like I had a novel in me. However, I am absolutely captivated by really good opening lines — the way they instantly yank you out of your life and into a story, into someone else’s. For this reason, I began several years ago writing the “first lines of the novel I didn’t write today.” This is a collection of some of those.
