First Lines, 11/29/13

First lines of the novel I had no time to write today:

"In that bitter moment, she realized that she was no longer 'his,' as she'd long perceived. Instead, he was HERS. Her responsibility. Her problem. And her burden to bear, through this life — and possibly the next. All that remained was this terrible albatross, chained to her neck by those miserable vows — of which she meant every word, the vows she'd never betray. She woke up one day, neck-deep in 'worse,' after having slow-danced for years with 'better.' Now, she stared into a future, and struggled to see ANYTHING but the obvious: a warm, still-smoking gun."
